Nearly one-fourth of the body’s bones are found in the feet. The foot is comprised of 7 tarsal bones, 5 metatarsal bones, 14 phalange bones and 2 small free-floating bones. The foot contains 30 joints and over 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments, all of which work together to provide support, balance and mobility.
It has been recommended that runners get a new pair of shoes every 6 months or 500 miles. This is due to the wear of the sole of the shoe. If the sole is not supportive, the runner can face injury. These injuries can occur in the foot, ankle and up through the leg and hip.
Therefore, it’s recommended that if you own a pair of athletic shoes for any type of training you might be doing, take care of your feet and replace those shoes as soon as you notice they have become worn or unsupported.
